Hijama therapy is a method of treatment that has gained popularity among Arabs since ancient times. Today, Hijama therapy is widely used as an alternative treatment method in various countries including the Gulf Arab countries, including the United States, India, and Pakistan. Hijama therapy is a form of treatment that removes impure blood from specific parts of the body. If you endure a little pain during Hijama, the relief you get afterwards is indescribable.

Effective for any diseases

Hijama therapy is not only a treatment method for various diseases but also a preventive treatment. Inadequate blood circulation is the cause of 70 percent of diseases. Hijama therapy is a unique treatment method that improves blood circulation and purifies the blood. Hijama therapy is helpful in eliminating the impure blood that has accumulated in the body due to various reasons and in the production of pure blood. Hijama therapy is also an effective treatment for back pain, joint pain, depression, mental tension, migraine, neck pain and various skin diseases.

In the words of the Prophet

Hijama therapy is a method of treatment promoted by the Prophet (PBUH). Islam is a religion that stated centuries ago that disease should be treated and that there is medicine for all diseases except death and it is the duty of everyone to take that medicine and be healthy. The rural Arabs came to the Prophet and asked: If we get sick, should we treat them? Prophet: No, O slaves of Allah! Of course you should treat it. Because Allah has not left any disease without treatment. Except for old age.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: Hijama treatment is the best treatment you have received. (Bukhari 5371). In the night of Istj-Mi’aj, the angel said to the Prophet: Oh! Muhammad. Command your community to perform Hijama treatment. He also said that you have cure in Hijama treatment. The Prophet (PBUH) said: There are three types of treatment. These are hijama, eating honey, and burning with fire. But I have forbidden my community to treat with fire.

It is clear from the dominant hadiths that the Prophet (PBUH) himself underwent Hijama treatment. Imam Ghazali’s observation that a disease should not be treated by its opposite is relevant as far as Hijama is concerned. Blood is the main cause of all diseases. To remove such blood from the body is to cure the disease by its opposite.

How to perform Hijama

The Arabic word Hijama is derived from the word ‘hajm’ which means to pull. In the past, hijama was done by making small cuts on the painful part of the body and draining the blood from it using animal horns. Hence it came to be known as the horn treatment. Another variant of this popular in Ayurveda is the use of leeches to draw blood from the body’s veins.

Small cups are used to create a vacuum by removing the air inside and concentrating the blood at points with a small vacuum pressure on certain parts of the body. This process gives the body a sense of well-being. After that, a mantra to reduce the pain is struck in that area and a message is given there. A small blade is then used to cut the baby there and the blood is drawn through cups using a vacuum. That is the reason why it is named cupping therapy.

Hijama is best on Tuesday and Thursday. The Prophet (PBUH) has made it clear that whoever performs Hijama treatment on the odd days of the lunar month, 17th, 19th and 21st, it is a cure for all diseases. (Sunan Abu Dawud 3861). The Prophet’s saying that whoever revives the prophethood has a great reward with Allah, should be encouraged to do Hijama.

For those struggling with lifestyle diseases, try hijama therapy as an alternative treatment method and as prevention is better than cure. No doubt it will be a great step in protecting our health. There are many treatment methods available today for our diseases. If a disease can be cured by alternative medicine, that is the best.
